Canada Day celebrations are planned for this year, on Saturday, July 1, and promise to be bigger than ever.
Everybody is welcome to bring their friends and families to various locations around Deep River.
The arena is the venue for this year’s Canada Day parade and inflatable games, bouncers, yard games and face painting for kids. There will also be food, music, entertainment and more.
With all this uncertain weather, the town’s recreation department has decided the arena is the best place for these activities. A variety of vendors will also exhibit and sell their wares at the arena.
Would you believe there will even be a live cow?
Deep River Police will be there to offer a free children’s bicycle safety and obstacle course at 10:30 am, followed by a bicycle decorating contest at 1 pm, with prizes.
Online pre-registration is required for these activities.
A small brass band will lead kids in the traditional Rotary Red & White parade around the arena floor at 12 noon, followed by the traditional singing of “O Canada.”
Everybody is welcome to join in, and is encouraged to wear something red and/or white in recognition of Canada’s national holiday.
As usual, after the short parade everybody will be served free birthday cake provided by the town, Jan’s Valu-mart, and Rotary.
There will even be free popcorn, courtesy of the Deep River Legion.
Elsewhere around town, the Deep River Library is hosting a story walk and craft kits. There’ll be yoga at the waterfront and volleyball at Lamure Beach.
The Hexagon, 86 Bistro, and Long Shots will have food and drink specials during the day.
The town’s spectacular fireworks display is scheduled at the Makenzie campus at 9:45 pm.
While waiting for the fireworks, Junkyard Symphony will perform and balloon artist Mr. Dimples will be there at 7 pm, and DJ Big Mike will pump it up at 7:30 pm.
Make sure you check out the poster on the town’s website and in this week’s NRT for more details.
