The town of Deep River could expand its marina on either side of the federal pier, but given the costs involved, don’t hold your breath that it’s going to happen anytime soon.
Deep River council received a report recently on the potential expansion of the marina, outlining issues, possible designs and estimated costs.
The report, by consultants WF Baird & Associates Coastal Engineers, recommends an expansion on the southeast or downstream side of the existing marina, moving sections of the existing breakwater so that the marina basin was wider and longer.
The expansion would more than double the capacity of the marina from 100 slips to an estimated 220, but at an estimated cost of almost $4.5 million.
Baird & Associates said expansion on the upstream side of the pier was “feasible from a technical standpoint but may present more challenges for permitting as it impacts an entirely different area from the present marina”…
