The Pembroke and Area Airport Commission (PAAC) continues to press its case for government money to fund capital improvements.
Last week it took that case to the County of Renfrew, and came armed with information highlighting the importance of the airport to this region.
The PAAC, which is comprised of six municipalities that own the airport, including Deep River and Laurentian Hills, has hired a public relations firm to assist in its quest for funding.
Peter Seeman, with Grassroots Public Affairs, told county council the airport brings with it a number of advantages.
Its runway, he said, allows for use by larger aircraft, and the airport, along with being certified by Transport Canada, allows for inclement weather landings and its services are offered around the clock.
That means the airport can, and is, used by a number of public safety and healthcare providers, ranging from the Ontario Provincial Police to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ornge Air Ambulance.
“It was news to me that 50 percent of their fleet is fixed-wing aircraft,” Seeman said of the latter agency.
