AECL moves ahead in GoCo search

Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd is moving forward with its search for the next operators of Canadian Nuclear Laboratories.

And it’s doing so with a promise of “increased levels of funding across the board” from the federal government.

Both those messages were delivered recently in an “all-staff” presentation to employees at the Chalk River labs.

A copy of the presentation was posted recently on AECL’s “GoCo contract renewal” web page.

The presentation notes that the federal government in its 2024 budget “announced funding over 11 years to AECL to enable work at CNL.”

“(The) level of funding allows us to deliver on existing plans, (with) increased levels of funding across the board in S&T (science and technology), capital and DWM (decommissioning and waste management).”

According to its latest corporate plan, AECL is projecting funding of almost $1.86 billion in 2025-26, up from $1.59 billion this year…
