For the second night in a row, Highway 17 was closed to traffic early Tuesday evening as Laurentian Hills firefighters, Renfrew County paramedics and the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a single vehicle accident west of Deep River.
Firefighters were called out to the scene, just west of Burke’s Road in Laurentian Hills, shortly before 5 pm.
A late model Jeep heading east left the roadway after crossing the westbound lane and plunging off the gravel embankment, where it struck a series of trees before coming to rest about 20 m from the north shoulder.
There were no obvious signs of braking or skid marks before the vehicle left the roadway.
The driver, the only occupant of the Jeep, was able to walk with help away from the vehicle and was then lifted up the steep embankment to a waiting ambulance and taken to hospital.
Further details will be updated as they become available.
