A 29-year-old Pembroke woman faces serious charges after a violent domestic dispute in the city Tuesday.

Police say that on August 11, 2020 at approximately 12:30 pm, officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a domestic dispute between two people at a residence in the 300 block of Mary Street.

A female from Pembroke was arrested and taken into custody at the scene.

The victim, a 56-year-old male from Pembroke, left the scene prior to police arrival after sustaining injuries from an “edged weapon” in the dispute.

The victim was located that afternoon and taken to hospital by ambulance with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

An officer was assaulted during the arrest.

Police say the female accused has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:

  • Assault
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Aggravated assault
  • Assault a peace officer.

The accused was held for a bail hearing on August 12 and subsequently held in custody until their next court appearance on August 13 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.

Police say the public may have noticed an increased police presence in the west end of Pembroke during the search but there was no known threat to public safety as a result of this incident.
