The Chalk River Legion has been placed under trusteeship.
There are few details, but the NRT has learned that members of the local branch received a letter last week from the Ontario Command of the Royal Canadian Legion suspending “the powers” of Chalk River’s Private William Edward Bryant Branch (562) “effective immediately.”
At the same time, provincial president Garry Pond has appointed a panel of three trustees “to preserve all property and administer the affairs” of the branch for a period of 90 days, up to May 5, 2020.
“This action is being taken as a result of most of the executive being related by blood and their inability to get along,” the letter says.
“Of particular note are the numerous complaints by members of the branch and lack of financial reporting.”
The letter goes on to state that the current branch officers “will remain in their respective positions and continue to hold their offices but their ability to make decisions is limited to only what the trustees determine is appropriate.”
