A Pembroke teen faces serious weapons charges after firing an air pistol at a girl in Petawawa last Wednesday evening.
Police say that on December 9, 2020, at approximately 8:30 pm, members of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began investigating after a female teenager was shot with an air pistol by an occupant of a motor vehicle.
The incident took place on Victoria Street in Petawawa after a verbal altercation between the occupants of a motor vehicle and youths who were on foot. The vehicle fled the scene and the victim attended hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
On December 12, 2020, as a result of this investigation, police arrested a 14-year-old Pembroke male in connection with this incident and an air pistol was seized. The accused faces the following Criminal Code (CC) charges:
- Discharge air gun or pistol with intent
- Assault with a weapon
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Imitation firearm – use while committing an offence.
The young person was released to their parent and is scheduled to appear in Youth Court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on January 28, 2020.
The name of the accused youth cannot be released in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
