An update from the Ontario Provincial Police Monday as they report that two girls missing since Thursday in Algonquin Park have been found safe.
Police say an OPP Canine Unit found the girls Monday morning. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
Police launched a major search over the weekend for Marta Malek and Maya Mirota, both 16 years of age from the Kitchener, Ontario area, after the girls were reported missing at approximately 10 pm on Friday, July 12.
They were last seen on Thursday, July 11 on the Western Uplands Trail, between Rainbow Lake and Susan Lake.
They had been part of a group camping in the park and both are experienced campers. They had a tent, other equipment and limited supplies.
An air and ground searched commenced at sun-up on July 13, 2019. An OPP helicopter and a fixed-wing plane from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests (MNRF) assisted in the search.
