Ten Mackenzie badminton players competed in the Junior Upper Ottawa Valley high school tournament hosted by Fellowes High School on April 12 in Pembroke.

The entire team consisted of Grade 9 students and although they faced often older opponents, their cumulative score was enough for the Mustangs to tie for fourth place in team aggregate points.

Leading the way was the boys doubles team of Dylan Buyers and Sam Steer, who won silver, followed by the duo of Maram Nabawy and Summin Luk who finished third in mixed doubles.

Although no further medals were won, the other six players performed well and gained valuable experience for next year.

This week, the varsity badminton team will look to qualify for EOSSAA at Valour at the UOVHSAA County Championships.
