A 34-year-old Pembroke man faces several firearms charges after an investigation going back to last September.
Police say the Crime Unit of the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began investigating after a man with a gunshot wound attended the emergency department at the Pembroke Regional Hospital in the early morning hours of September 25, 2020. The male has since been released from hospital.
Through investigation it has been determined that the injury was self-inflicted as a result of an accidental discharge.
On January 21, 2021 the UOV OPP arrested and charged a 34-year-old Pembroke man in connection to this incident. The accused is facing the following Criminal Code (CC) charges:
- Careless use of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order – two counts
- Fail to comply with probation – two counts
The accused was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody until their next court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on January 27.
