Laurentian Hills firefighters were on the scene quickly early Tuesday night as they responded to a report of a small bush fire in Chalk River.
Firefighters were called out to the blaze at about 7:20 pm after warnings that the flames were “spreading quickly” behind Candy Lane near the Plant Road.
Crews responded from both the Chalk River and Point Alexander fire halls, with the fire brought under control within 15 minutes of the initial callout.
Firefighters remained on scene to douse potential hotspots in the ground cover in the area of the blaze.
While fire conditions in most of the province are rated as “low” to “moderate,” Ontario has already had 13 early season forest fires this year, compared to just one to this point last year and a 10-year average of six.
