Another former Deep River resident and researcher at the Chalk River Laboratories has been named to receive one of Canada’s highest honours.

Derek Lister, currently professor emeritus at the University of New Brunswick, was one of 120 people named Saturday to the Order of Canada by Governor General Julie Payette.

Established in 1967, the Order of Canada recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to community and service to the nation.

The Order of Canada’s motto is “Desiderantes Meliorem Patriam” (“They desire a better country”).

Lister was named as a “Member” of the Order of Canada “for his contributions to nuclear energy research and improvements to occupational safety.”
