Deep River’s Marini to run for Liberals

Long-time Deep River resident Ruben Marini will carry the banner for the Liberals in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke this fall.

The local Liberal riding association confirmed Marini’s nomination in a Facebook post Wednesday.

The riding association said Marini was the only “qualified nomination contestant to have successfully completed the nomination application process.”

“Therefore, Ruben will be acclaimed at the nomination meeting as our Liberal candidate in the next general election in October.”

The riding association said the “Team Trudeau nominations process supports unprecedented new engagement with Canadians, the re-election of our dedicated Liberal team in Parliament, and the election of even more talented, diverse, and hardworking community leaders as Liberal MPs.”

“Our strong focus on community engagement stems from the Liberal Party’s commitment to building the most open and inclusive movement in Canadian politics…

“Working together in the months ahead, the hope and hard work of Liberals across Canada will ensure our candidates and campaign teams are ready to earn another mandate from Canadians in 2019!”

Marini will officially be confirmed as the party’s candidate at an open nomination meeting next Thursday, August 1 beginning at 6 pm at the Nelson Street Pub in Pembroke.

Marini announced his intention to run for the nomination in a Facebook post in May.

“After 25 years of joining the Liberals, time has come to run for office!

“After serious considerations, I’ve decided that I’ll be pursuing the nomination as a Liberal candidate for the riding of Renfrew-Nippising-Pembroke in the upcoming October 2019 Federal Elections.”

To qualify, candidates required signatures of support from at least 100 registered Liberals in the riding.
