Deep River will be well represented at this year’s Brier in Kingston.
First, nine-year-old Kelly Hogue will be one of four curlers representing Ontario in the National Hit Tap Draw Championship that is held annually at the Brier.
Kelly has been curling for four years in the Deep River Junior program and she won the club competition in December and finished in the top 10 in the province out of more than 200 curlers and earned a berth in the provincial competition in Cornwall.
In that competition Kelly finished in a tie for the fourth and final spot on team Ontario.
In the playoff Kelly outdrew her competitor and is now slated to be the first Deep River curler ever to compete on Brier ice.
She will compete on Sunday, March 8.
