Cogeco Communications says it will bring ultra high-speed Internet service to Deep River and Chalk River by next April.
Michael Hennessy, manager of network expansion and extension for Cogeco Connexion, will make a presentation to Deep River council Wednesday night.
In a slide deck prepared for his presentation, Hennessy says upgraded fibre connections along Highway 17 from Petawawa to Chalk River, Mountainview subdivision and Deep River will be completed and Internet service of up to 1 Gig speeds (1,000 megabits per second) will be available by April 2022.
“In 2019, Cogeco announced that they would invest more than $1B over the next 4 years to enhance and expand their broadband network in Ontario and Quebec,” his presentation says.
“More than ever, Cogeco is committed to contributing to the economic recovery and growth of the areas in which they serve, and are particularly proud of their focus on serving those communities in rural areas that are traditionally unserved or underserved.”
The system will use the existing coaxial cable network and will serve up to 2,262 homes in Deep River and 770 homes in Chalk River.
Cost of the service will range from $89 per month for unlimited 90/10 service to $113 for unlimited 1 Gig.
