Body of missing person recovered from Pembroke river

The Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police have confirmed reports that a woman’s body has been recovered from the Indian River in Pembroke.

The OPP say that a 54-year-old Pembroke resident was reported missing to the UOV detachment on the evening of December 20, 2019. The missing person failed to return home after leaving to walk a dog, which had returned on its own.

On December 21, 2019 foot and dog tracks were found near open water on the Indian River in the area of Christie Street and McGee Street in the City of Pembroke.

The OPP’s Underwater Search and Recovery Unit were engaged and at approximately 4:30 pm that afternoon the unit recovered the body of the missing person from the Indian River.

The deceased person has been identified as 54-year-old Patricia Smith of Pembroke.

A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death which is believed to be drowning. Foul play is not suspected.
